Personal laws are primarily concerned with marriage, divorce, custody of the child, maintenance for divorced women, guardianship, adoption, succession and inheritance. Each religion has its own personal laws which govern the private life of individuals of such religion. However, apart from these personal laws, which are religion-specific, there are also a number of legislations which deal with different aspects of one’s personal life, irrespective of the religion of the individual.

The Foundation course on Secular Laws on Marriage and Succession aims to provide an overview of how different aspects of the private life of an individual are dealt with under secular laws in India, by means of video lectures.

To be eligible to receive a certificate after successful completion of the course, one is required to secure an overall minimum of 40 percent in the Project Assignment.
